In the book, homeless individuals
are faced with a type of discrimination and a poverty herbal that is hard to
come out of. The definition of the word
homeless is ‘an individual who sleeps in various shelters’ and an ‘absolute
homelessness’ person is defined
as individuals who sleep outdoors or in other places not intended for human
habitation (Ramin & Svoboda, para. 2, 2009)”. What people forget is the fact that many children
and teenagers are facing homelessness. The system that the US has for DCFS and Foster
care is the most corrupt system in the United States. Many children rather be
homeless then stay in the system because they are either being token advantage
of or are stuck in unhealthy and dangerous situations, and the people that are
suppose to be protecting them are doing them the most harm.
In urban
poverty it usually occurs in cities on the poorest sides where crime, budget
housing, less opportunities, poor health outcomes and underperformance schools
reside The part about the author explaining
the cycle of oppression that the government puts us through is what really
stood out to me the most. In the Abramsky, it discusses how peoples lives don’t
get any better because of how the government runs things. the government is
supposed to assist us in making life better for us. They sell immigrants that
American dream is easily obtainable, however, that is not always the case, as
we know. The USA tried to distract us with poverty in other countries (such as
Africa) through ways of making it seem as if they need assistance very bad,
however, they forget that in there own back yard, poverty, food desserts and
oppression occur every second of the day.
Programs descrded
such as earn and learn that started in michigan assist in strenghining the
community through improving skills and driving the interest in learning
vocational and labor trades in immagrants or anyone in the community looking
for these programs. With these tools descrided in the book, more individuals
would be eligible to find quality labor that will adquetly assist them in
prodiving for their families and also contribute to a prsitive social economic
and local economic.
