Amanda Cleys Blog #2

1. On page 132 he Abramsky says " Throughout history, philosophers and political figures have sought to distinguish between the deserving and the undeserving poor..." I understand what it trying to be understood but it sounds very harsh in writing. It makes sense that our political figures do not want to help people who have put themselves in bad situations. But then again they need a lending hand in able to get out of the bad cycle.

2. On page 156 Abramsky talks about Hurricane Katrina. He stated " Hurricane Katrina is where old poverty meets new, where then intergenerational poverty of the inner city becomes magnified by natural disaster and political ineptitude". He is saying that they were enable to evacuate properly because of the lack of money in  their city. It is bad enough that they were not well off to begin with but then they had a hurricane come in and destroy everything. Anyone who had any type of money had lost everything and had to start from scratch just like everyone else within the community.

3. On page 169 Abramsky states that "In Tucson, Arizona, the housing crisis was taking down owners and renters alike." It is a vicious cycle because people were losing jobs, therefore they were unable to pay rent/house payments, then ended up being evicted because of the job loss. This happens in every part of the United States but Abramsky talks about the Williams family. The Williams family has similar stories to many families within America. The father was a veteran and they were moving from shelter to shelter. Veterans should never be homeless. They risk their life for our country and they are homeless in return.
